Rosalind Lake is a competition lawyer in the Johannesburg office.
Rosalind specialises in cartel investigations, merger notifications and competition law opinions, particularly in the manufacturing, banking, commodities and mining sectors. She has extensive experience in developing and implementing competition law compliance programmes and in particular, training employees on how to comply with the Competition Act.
Rosalind is involved in defending clients in alleged anti competitive complaint proceedings in several sectors, including the tyre, oil and airline industries. She has assisted clients with obtaining merger clearance on a number of high profile mergers and has experience with mergers in the manufacturing, food, property, banking and mining sectors. Rosalind is representative on the Competition Law sub-committee of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces.
Rosalind also practices consumer protection law, especially in relation to the new Consumer Protection Act and how it will affect and change business in South Africa. Rosalind is advising clients in a variety of sectors on bringing their business practices in line with the requirements of the new laws. These sectors include the:

- airline,
- insurance,
- financial,
- telecommunications and
- commodities
Rosalind provides training and advice on compliance with all aspects of the Consumer Protection Act, such as marketing, unfair contracts, product liability and has a special interest in the impact on franchising.
Rosalind is co-authoring a guide to the Consumer Protection Act and is frequently quoted as an expert on the new Act in a variety of publications.
Rosalind is a regular conference speaker, guest lecturer, and guest speaker. She is often interviewed on television and radio as a specialist in Competition Law and Consumer Protection related topics. Rosalind also frequently contributes articles to mainstream and specialist publications on these subjects.
Rosalind attended Rhodes University where she obtained her BA and LLB and achieved a position on the Dean’s merit list for both degrees. She also received her Master of Laws (with distinction) from Rhodes University by way of thesis on employment discrimination law. Rosalind served her articles with the firm and was appointed as an associate in January 2008. She is an admitted attorney and a member of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces.
